Mrs. Beasley's Bakery in the News
The latest move by Pepsi to dive headlong into the 21st century is a fully-computerized online network of soda machines. Debuting in Chicago this week, the Social Vending Machine comes with a full touch-screen, video-recording capabilities and connectivity to mobile devices and the internet.
As part of the many special features of the machine, users will be able to buy a drink for a friend. All you have to do is go to a Social Vending Machine, pay for a drink and record a message with the built-in Pepsi camera. A message is sent to your friend's phone, telling him to get to the nearest unit and claim that free drink. From there, he can kick back and enjoy a free beverage, repay the favor with a gifted drink of his own or engage in a "Random Act of Refreshment."
Pepsi introduced "Random Acts of Refreshment" to help spread the joy of social-media-mediated soda consumption. If you're feeling extra generous, go ahead and pay for a soda that will be randomly given to a thirsty soul later in the day.
We have seen the future, and it involves personalized and computerized thirst-quenching. What could be next? Robots delivering pizza? Networks of candy-filled pneumatic tubes?
