Anyone who’s ever tried to lose weight (using any weight loss program) knows it can feel like a lonely and desolate island. It’s not easy to stay focused and depending on what the weight issue is, there can more to combat than simply eating less. There are all kinds of body types and all types of body issues to go with them. There are people who are trying to lose an extra few pounds for that wedding in the fall or for their high school reunion. There are new moms who are eager to shed the rest (or all of their baby weight, there are people who don’t know how it happened, but all of a sudden there are ten pounds hanging around and they are sooo not welcome. There are people who have struggled with their weight for their entire lives. A struggle like that goes deep, really deep to a core problem with food. An addiction to something that is vital to stay alive is not an easy thing to overcome. Alcoholics or drug addicts who are trying to kick their habits practice abstaining from their vices, the idea being never again, because I can’t do just a little. But how do you kick a habit when abstinence isn’t an option. You have to learn to control it. You have to identify the problem and your part of it. You have to learn to live food, to enjoy it, but to know that it is just food, not love or comfort or companionship. It may seem ridiculous, but when you are on this lonely desolate island of weight loss (attempted weight loss, anyway) how do you learn how to do it so that you don’t have to try and fail and try and fail and try and fail? You find a program like Weight Watchers.
What makes the Weight Watchers program any different from any of the other thousands of programs you may have tried (and probably hated or didn’t find success with.) Well, it’s not a typical diet. In fact, it’s not a diet at all. Whereas a diet might just focus on food while ignoring the importance of exercise and other factors necessary for sustained weight loss, Weight Watchers offers a scientific approach to encouraging good eating choices, in a stressless environment, and exercise. There are no prepackaged food items that are required purchases. You don’t have to follow rigid rules or to eliminate a food or food group entirely. It’s a plan that allows you to eat what you like, with an emphasis on nutrition and advice on staying satisfied by choosing the foods you enjoy. It’s also a sensible plan to help you lose weight at a healthy rate plus the knowledge and info you need to help you keep it off for good. A time tested approach developed through multiple scientific studies, Weight Watchers had developed flexible food plans that can adapt to any lifestyle or unique needs.
Weight Watchers is based on a few very simple principles. The first of which is, you are not alone. There are hundreds of thousands of people who are trying (either for the first time or for the hundred and first) to get that weight off and if there is one thing to know, you do not have to try to do it alone. With in location meetings as well as a global online community, the lonely, desolate island is alive and crawling with help and support. Meetings provide a safe forum for discussion, advice, and support, a place to learn practical strategies to reach your goals, a confidential weigh-on to monitor your progress, a place to receive an interactive tools to stay on track between meetings. Weight Watchers wants every member to know that each weigh in is confidential, that meetings work for both men and women, that there are no required or restricted foods (you can eat what you like!) that meetings are dynamic, diverse, and fun, that leaders gave lost weight with Weight Watchers, that you don’t have to talk if you don’t want to, that it’s easy to find a meeting near you, that there are lost of meeting times to choose from, that Weight Watchers online forum ETools is available, and that there are many flexible payment options to choose from. With the Momentum Program, you’ll learn to handle hunger and beat temptation, how to stay fuller longer and with delicious filling foods, how to make healthy, smart choices second nature, you’ll get expert information based on the latest nutritional research, you’ll come to rely on an easy to follow, simple plan. The Momentum program will help you choose wisely with the Weight Watchers Points system, as well as teach you to adapt the plan to your needs, so you can “Stop Dieting and Start Living.”
The other tenet of Weight Watchers is the idea weight loss is connected to eating less and moving more. The program addresses eating less (and in a smart, mindful way) first, and then begins to integrate exercise tips once you’ve gained a little momentum and lost a little weight. So how to measure food in an easy and effective way? Weight Watchers has developed a point system in which every food has a point value. You have a target number of points to consume a day and keeping at or under that target promotes the weight loss. Points are determined with a calculation of calories, fat grams, and fiber. The actual math of the system is never something you have to worry about. Simply purchase a Weight Watchers Points calculator and it will do all the work for. (A cardboard slide rule as well as a book with an extensive points list is also a part of the Getting Started Package.)
Weight Watchers.com can help you get started. With a handy meeting finder and all the information you need to be inspired and to give you the jumpstart for the new, healthier, thinner, trimmer you the push it needs to shine!

04/06/12: If you were one of the many who made the resolution to lose weight and keep it off, this article is for you. For many of us the idea of losing weight, getting healthier and living a more active lifestyle sounds promising after the weight gained throughout the previous year and holiday season. So January 1st has come and gone and how are you keeping that resolution to lose weight & get in shape. Some of us have been dedicated and have achieved this resolution, where as some of us only kept it going for a few weeks or a month at the most. With that said here are few tips to either keep that momentum going or to ease your way back into getting on track with dieting and exercising. One of the simplest things you can do to lose weight is to swap those high calorie sodas for water or another calorie free beverage. Try to keep your beverage consumption to less than 5 calories per serving, that way you are not wasting your calories on liquids. You should also eat small snacks and meals throughout the day, instead of grazing. This will help keep your metabolism going and help you feel like you aren’t starving yourself. Another important tip is to keep a food journal of everything you consume during the day. Once you see in writing what and how much you are eating, it will help you realize just how much you really are eating and encourage you to eat better. Be sure to include anything you drink, eat or put in your mouth. Believe it or not a bite of cake here, a piece of candy there, a taste or two of what you are preparing for dinner can add up throughout the day, although it doesn’t seem like a big deal at the time. In addition to your food journal, you should track the amount of exercise you do throughout the day. Log the 15 minute walk you did on your lunch break as well as the intense workouts done at the gym. If eating out is your weakness, order kid’s meals when going through the drive-thru, that way you can still have that burger & fries you are craving without the extra calories of the value meal. Or when going out to dinner ask for a to-go box when you place your order. Once your meal has arrived, go ahead and put half of your meal in the box to have for lunch tomorrow. Doing this allows you to enjoy your meal without overeating. Start by slowly integrating these tips into your daily routine, after a few weeks these will become habit and just be second nature to you. You'll notice that eating healthier and exercising makes you feel good, so you'll keep doing it. There's no reason why you can't get started today.
Instead of running out to the gym or the grocery store to change your daily habits, why not look to professionals for help? While you may be able to do it by yourself, it's much easier and safer to be monitored and supported throughout the weight loss process. That's why a Weight Watchers promotion code is a good idea, because you can get 25 percent off your first month or even 30 percent off of the three-month plan. Getting help doesn't have to be expensive!
There are many misconceptions about weight loss, which is why it's so difficult for many people. Believe it or not, you don't have to do a complete overhaul of your dietary habits or work out constantly at the gym to drop pounds. As long as you have a bit of self-control, tweaking the way you regularly do things is easy and rewarding. Here are a few things you can do to become healthier and happier.
It sounds simple enough, but lots of people don't get enough water into their bodies each day. Since your body is made up of so much water, it's important to replenish the amounts so your body maintains a balance and stays hydrated. You don't have to force yourself to down eight glasses a day, contrary to what you may have heard. All kinds of liquids have the amount of water you need, whether it's tea, juice, coffee or even diet sodas. Try to drink as much as you can throughout the day and keep in mind that even some foods provide you with water, like fruits and vegetables. You may you think you're hungry and reach for something to satisfy yourself, but in fact, your body is just thirsty. Next time you feel like a snack, drink something instead and see if that satisfies you.
Load up on fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are some of the most nutritious and healthy foods you can eat, which is why the majority of your meals should consist of them. They can add flavor and body to many dishes and oftentimes they fill you up. Fruit is a great option if you have a sweet tooth because they have plenty of natural sugars and fiber so you stay full and satisfied longer than you would with a candy bar. Vegetables are also packed with fiber and nutrients and usually have less calories than fruit. Next time you're thinking of something to eat, make yourself a big salad and use oil and balsamic vinegar instead of creamy dressings. You'll be surprised how good it is and how awesome you'll feel.
Choose whole grains
Carbohydrates are essential for your body because they provide energy, but many foods with carbohydrates are also filled with calories and starches that your body doesn't need. Instead of choosing processed grains, pick foods with whole grains. They're more nutritious and have much more fiber, which your digestive system needs to function properly. Whole grains also make you feel fuller for longer. Switch white bread for wheat bread and always pick whole grain pasta that's fortified. If a bread or pastry product doesn't have whole grains, there's really no reason to eat them because they're not providing you with what you need.
Protein is an important part of your diet because it strengthens your body and keeps hunger at bay between meals, which is great for weight loss. Instead of choosing red meat, which has a lot of unhealthy saturated fats, it's important to choose lean proteins like eggs, ground sirloin, pork chops or pork loin, turkey or chicken breast, chicken tenderloins, soybeans and seafood. Stay away from things like bacon, sausage and hot dogs, which are very fatty. Pay attention to the portions you eat. Most meat portions should be the size of your palm.
Getting enough exercise is easier than you think, and it doesn't even have to involve lengthy trips to the gym. As long as your body is moving, you're getting exercise. If you take the stairs instead of an elevator, park farther away in the parking lot and take a walk around your neighborhood, you should notice a difference in how you feel. Even activities like cleaning the house and playing with your kids counts as activity. Aim for around 30 minutes of moderate activity five days a week and you'll begin to see results.
Getting healthier and losing weight is much easier than you think, and it's cheap too, as long as you get a Weight Watchers promotion code!
