Change your makeup with the seasons for a fresh look
When the summer heat fades and the fall chill sets in, we put away our swimsuits and pull out our sweaters. While we all make sure to change our wardrobe with the seasons, you should also switch up your makeup routine. To keep your skin comfortable, look for different products at the beginning of a new season. Make sure you keep up with the appropriate colors for the time of year to make sure you look in style.
Fall Makeup
There's a few summer looks you should change as the sunny days fade. If you used a darker shade of foundation to match your tan, be sure to switch back to your normal skin tone. Sticking by your self-tanner? Tone down the glow for the cooler months. Summer generally calls for a light-weight makeup. In the fall, you can switch back to a heavier foundation.
As the leaves change color, your makeup hues should too. Pick out some new hues for your eyes and nails to match the tones your new fall wardrobe. Ditch the corals and the pastels and go for richer colors. Popular colors for fall include orange, brown, red and yellow. Pick those with golden flakes or deep tones to make the greatest impact. The smoky eye, which is heavy on the lid, works well in the fall. Use a dark grey and plenty of eyeliner to achieve the look.
In terms to lips, you can go much bolder in the cooler months. Accentuate your lips with a deep red hue.
A soft, nude makeup color is also a hot trend for the fall and winter. It is also a very natural look that can help carry you through several seasons of the year. A natural lip color or a light red will help give you a natural appearance. Highlight your eyes by using a light, shimmery powder underneath your brow. Avoid heavy, black mascaras that can overpower your eyes.
Winter Makeup
Winter brings not only snow, but also holiday parties. Your daytime look from the fall can carry into the winter. Bold colors continue to work in those gray, dark days that come with the season.
At night, though, you'll want to glam up your look. A smoky eye is a great evening style, but make it even more dramatic by accentuating your lashes. Use a dark mascara that separates and lengthens. Another way to beautify your eyes is using a glittery shadow. Stick with fall and winter types of colors, rather than shimmer pinks or chorals.
Evenings are one time when you can have both bold eyes and lips. Use a plumping gloss or a liner to give you the appearance of a fuller pout. Glosses will match the shimmering look of your eyes and help protect your lips for chapping in the dry winter air. A strong red lip is a great party look.
Spring Makeup
Blossom from the cold winter months with light, bright colors come springtime.
For your lips, red, hot pink and orange with help brighten up your face. Go for matte looks, rather than glossy to keep your look natural.
You'll want those hot lip colors to pop against perfect, flawless skin. The spring is usually too early to pull out a bold tan (whether it's because it is too chilly for sunbathing or because a self-bronzer would look too strong). Pick the foundation that best fits your skin. Your winter products may feel a bit too heavy on those warm days of spring, so consider switching to something more light-weight. However, stick with you're natural skin color.
Give your face a boost of color by using a brightening shade on your cheeks. Look for a peachy or rosey shade, depending on your skin tone. For nails and eyes, the brighter the better in the spring. Reds, hot pinks and oranges that go on your lips are strong spring hues for your polish and shadows too. In terms of eyeliner, use a white highlight pencil during the day on the bottom lid and avoid darker colors on top. Try a brown liner if you want a fuller look for your lashes. Pastel shadows are another common spring look. Keep them light to avoid getting Easter egg eyes.
Summer Makeup
When the spring days heat up, you know the days at the beach are on their way.
The summer is a time to switch to lighter makeup and lighter colors. During the hottest days of the year, high heat and lots of sun can melt off makeup. A light foundation or just a powder may be enough to cover your summer skin. Heavier products could clog pores as they open up while you sweat in the heat. Your tan face will hide skin imperfections better, anyway, so you may not need all the consealer you do during the other seasons. Don't tan naturally? Try a self-tanner or a powder bronzer to give you that sun-kissed look.
Colors that correspond with the summer actually tend to be lighter. Dark colors get lost in the bright sun and your tanner skin. Try whites, pastels or even a light-hued blue for your lids. These will make your eyes pop. Natural looks are a great pair with a laid back summer. Try using a tinted lip balm with an SPF. The sunscreen will protect your pout while the tint gives you a boost of color on your face. With bronzer and a tan, you won't need the extra color of blush. A quick swipe of mascara, preferably in a brown shade, will give you a put together look without making your look unnatural.
