Broke Downer: Money Mistakes Aren't Exclusive To Those With Extra Cash
Filed Under: Personal Finance
One of the harsher realities when it comes to money and the inability to save it is when you realize your financial woes are going to need a significant overhaul. Simply put, you’re flat broke. What that term means is relative to the situation, saying that you might consider being broke as not having any income and expenses that are piling up as a result. You also can look at being broke as having just enough money to pay your bills with little or no room to spend or save accordingly. Being broke also could mean you have no money saved, nor are you able to set aside a mere dollar. But being broke doesn’t have to spell the end of any chances you’ll ever have to pull yourself out of that misery. You can develop a budget, cut back on expenses and try to find employment that runs parallel with what you need to make or just a job in general with the ability to tailor a budget to what you can afford. What indeed is a head-scratcher are the missteps those who are broke take even though they have no money. While it is hard to believe that someone who would call themselves “flat broke” would still have a penchant for spending. For instance, if you’re financial situation is poor, why are you still using credit cards for purchases that aren’t deemed as necessary. Sure, you can argue that if you’re broke and your money situation is woeful, you can use a credit card to buy food. But if you’re using that plastic crutch to clothes shop or pay unnecessary bills you can easily cut (such as cable), then you do not see clearly just how poor your money habits and situation is. In addition to spending money unnecessarily, those with bad money decision-making skills even when they’re broke still find it easy to spend money when they do have a little surplus of it. For instance, when you get your income tax refund and if you’re broke, what do you do with it? Some still feel the need to spend the money rather than save it. Would seem to the more efficient money savers that getting a sum of money handed to you, for whatever reasons, means you’ll have the chance to start a savings account or have some real-world emergency money on hand. Flat broke or just short on money; you must make it a point to overhaul your money and find out what matters. Chances are if you pay attention to how you’re spending, you’ll find ways to curb it, save money and go from broke to being just fine financially.
