Control Towering: Why Your Mentality About Money Matters
Filed Under: Personal Finance
Talk about money and being able to feel financially free, stable and at ease when it comes to saving and having a bright financial future rightfully focuses on the tangible.
Are you putting away a certain percentage of your paycheck, essentially following the sage advice of “paying yourself?”
Do you have a budget that matters, one that you follow and isn’t suddenly forgetful when it comes to all spending that you do?
These are more than just valid questions; they’ll determine ultimately how successful you’ll be when it comes to saving money and learning how to spend it properly.
But often overlooked is the mentality you have when it comes to money, and if your mindset isn’t where it needs to be or if you feel a different way about money, be in flippant or outright worried, you’ll never truly find that inner peace when it comes to saving or spending it correctly.
Most who have a good handle on their money and financially are feeling at as though they’re in a good spot focus on one key factor: stress, or lack thereof. Being in control of your finances is one of the greater feelings you can have because it makes saving and spending correctly that much easier. Money is a tremendous stressor, and if you’re not focusing on changing your thoughts about money to be more focused on saving, you’ll never truly get to the proverbial promise land where your finances are on autopilot, so to speak.
For most, money is of great concern because they don’t have access to it in the event of an emergency. That factor is supported by the cold, hard facts: about 60 percent of the population has less than a $1,000 saved. That isn’t going to put you in a good place mentally as far as money goes.
Knowing that you have a good piece of change in the bank allows you to better budget and plan for day to day expenses, the unknown that could potentially happen and, most importantly, your future (retirement) as well.
The nuts and bolts of saving money are of the utmost importance, and no one is going to argue how important a budget is or that making more money or always striving for a better job isn’t paramount, either.
But if you’re head isn’t on straight as far as how you perceive money and what financially smart means to you, then the greatest budget and planning in the world won’t overcome the roadblock that’s keeping you from truly understanding just how important money can be.
