About HughesNet
HughesNet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hughes Communications and offers high-speed Internet to neighborhoods where DSL and cable Internet don't reach. The company is based in Germantown, Maryland, with offices worldwide.
HughesNet is one of the only methods for consumers to access two-way satellite internet communication throughout the U.S. and Europe. With the boom in work-at-home customers, HughesNet has blossomed. HughesNet Gen4 access was offered to consumers on a 24 month contract basis, and customers are required to return the equipment to HughesNet at the conclusion of the contract.
Given that the signal has to travel to the satellite and back, HughesNet's Gen4 service has a higher latency time than DSL or cable communications. However, in 2017, HughesNet launched its Gen5 satellite service delivering faster download and upload speeds and coast to coast service. Today, HughesNet boasts over 1 million subscribers.
