M&M's is the principal product of the Mars Wrigley Confectionery division of Mars, Incorporated.

M&M's was first sold during the Second World War and today are known and enjoyed worldwide. The concept was inspired by the need to give troops a candy that would not melt in their pockets due to the hard candy shell and became known as, "candy that melts in your mouth and not your hand". Today, over 400 million M&M's are made in the U.S. in a wide array of colors. Peanut M&Ms were introduced to customers in 1954 and in multiple colors in 1960. In 1991, Peanut Butter M&Ms were released and after the turn of the century, a variety of other options were introduced.

Classic M&M'S come in the following colors, in these percentages: 30% brown, 20% yellow, 20% red, 10% orange, 10% green, and 10% blue. M&M'S Peanut Variety are: 20% brown, 20% yellow, 20% blue, and 20% red, 10% orange, and 10% green.

Where did the name "M&M's" come from?

The initials come from the founder of Newark Company, Forest Mars, and Bruce Murrie who was the son of Hershey Chocolate's president an a co-owner of the product.
